Her love of the natural world has led Djani Jaya on many adventures! Winning a Portland Audubon Society Youth Naturalist Award, she has traveled to every corner of Oregon, camping, crafting, and counting birds; she has toured the National Parks throughout the Western States. She has also been very fortunate to travel south to the Yucatan and to her mother's birthplace in Europe!
Jaya has also had many adventures in her community. Practically growing up at the Saturday Market in Portland, she knows the heart of the city. Attending the service-oriented Metropolitan Learning Center, she developed an interest in serving her community; pulling invasive ivy, serving the homeless, working on sustainability issues, computer recycling, and especially by serving as a volunteer at the Multnomah County Library. Most recently, she is once again working with the homeless, in what she calls the "most poignant service work."
